It’s true that some vaccine-preventable diseases have become less frequent thanks to vaccinations. However, cases and occurrence still happen. In 2014 measles came back into the attention, with over 600 cases from 27 states reported to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center from Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD). This is the largest number of incidences since measles were eradicated in the U.S. in 2000. From the beginning of 2016 to July, there where been over 45 cases of measles reported in the United States (School Starts Soon—Is Your Child Fully Vaccinated? | Features | CDC, n.d.) During a child’s initial life, vaccinations guard them from 14 diseases, some of which. can be severe and even life-threatening. Parents who choose not to vaccinate their children multiplied the risk of disease not only for their child, but also for other children and adults thru the community (School Starts Soon—Is Your Child Fully Vaccinated? | Features | CDC, n.d.). For example, a child that has a weakened immune system due to an illness is at a higher risk of contracting a disease. There are several vaccinations required for children before they are ready to enter Kindergarten. Some of which are: measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis (DTaP), polio, varicella, and in some cases hepatitis A and B. Currently, in all 50 states there is some method of vaccination requirement before entering public school.
